How Did I Reach My Goal Weight

Setting a Weight Loss Goal to Suit You

If you are thinking of losing weight you have probably worked out exactly how much weight you would like to lose.  However, is the goal that you have set yourself realistic, or is it just too hard to reach like most people’s weight loss goals usually are?
Finding the Right Weight Loss Goal for You

Every single person is different and so when setting your weight loss goal, you need to focus on your own body. It is no good whatsoever having the same weight loss goal as a friend or family member if you are 5”2 and they are 5”6! It simply will not work and you will end up disappointed and frustrated with yourself which is likely to make you stop trying to lose weight.

So, keep in mind your height and what doctors say your ideal weight should be and then stick to that. As for how much weight you should expect to lose, it all depends upon what exercise you do, how you eat and your own body. Most people notice a bigger loss of weight at the beginning of their weight loss program, yet that steadily declines over time and weight loss does tend to slow down. You will also find later on that if you do get extremely close to your ideal weight, it will seem to take forever to lose those extra few pounds. This is because our bodies know when we are almost the right weight and they do not let us go below our ideal weight without a fight!

Another thing to take into account when setting your goal is how overweight you actually are now. That will make a difference as to how much weight you should ideally set to lose in the beginning. If you have quite a lot of weight to lose, it is always better to set yourself small targets. For example, if you are over three stone overweight, set yourself a target to lose around three to four pounds as your first target. Starting off little will help you to keep the goal achievable and you will not become depressed for not reaching it!

Finally you need to work out if your overall goal is actually realistic. Do you have visions of going back to how you were in high school? If so your goal is extremely likely to be unreachable as you were probably a lot more active in high school. It can be hard sometimes facing up to the fact that things are simply different now and we will never be how we were years ago. However, that doesn’t mean to say that you will not be able to slim down, it just means that you have to be realistic about your goals.

Overall the main reasons people fail to lose weight is because they make their weight loss goals unattainable. By keeping your goals realistic you are much more likely to succeed. Also, remember that everybody has bad days so if you do end up gaining a little weight back it is not the end of the world and you can still reach your overall goal.
